Mohamed Osman Mohamud, an 19-year old Somali-born teenager, was arrested on Friday, November 26, 2010 due to an alleged bomb plot at a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Oregon, Portland, according to international news reports. Charges of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction were filed against him.
Mohamud, a naturalised US citizen is being believed to be in contact with an associate in Pakistan‘s North-West Frontier Province. Court records shows that his connection with the Pakistani associate started in August2009 through email.
According to the reports, the teenager parked the car with the bomb on the location of the tree lighting ceremony.Mohamud was arrested 18 minutes before the ceremony after he made a telephone call that was thought to trigger the bomb. Upon his arrest, Mohamud shouted “Allahu Akhkbar” and tried to resist arrest by kicking the apprehending agents and police. The plot however turned out to be fake.
